Egg donation

Egg donation is used in cases when ovaries do not produce eggs (dysfunction, malformation, premature depletion of ovarian function, menopause) and also in cases of repeated unsuccessful IVF attempts with embryos of bad quality. Egg donation is used in case of risk in transferring genetic diseases.

Who can be a donor?

According to recommendation of ASRM (American Society of Reproductive Medicine) and ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology), donor should be till 32 years who has a good mental and physical health. The donors who had cancer, cordial, genetic diseases, venereal diseases, psychic diseases, alcoholism, drugs are not used in the program.

Egg donation program is anonymous. The family that uses egg donor cannot see donor’s photo and only is informed about the following parameters: height, weight, colour of hair and eyes, blood type, nationality, education, she must have her own family and healthy children.

The age of recipient (woman for whom donor’s eggs are used) must be till 50 years. Any information about the recipient cannot be presented to a donor.  Woman-recipient must be examined by a therapeutist. She must present the conclusion of a doctor about the absence contraindications for pregnancy and delivery.

The efficiency of embryo transfer in egg donation cycle is higher than in the cycle of general IVF program. The index is about 50-60% for a cycle (http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/ART2003/nation03.asp)
